Fort Margherita
Fort MargheritaFort Margherita was built in 1879 to guard Kuchings river approaches from pirates. In the old days, a canon shot was fired from here every evening to mark the end of the government work day. Named after Charles Brookes wife, Ranee Margaret, it is a unmistakable landmark along Sarawak River. As the Fort is situated within the police training barracks, visitors may be asked for some form of ID.
Darul-Hana Bridge
Darul-Hana BridgeThe Darul Hana Bridge is the latest addition to the vibrant Kuching Waterfront, and is the only pedestrian bridge in Kuching that connects both sides of the Sarawak river. The bridge is fashioned in an S-shape, and is a curved bridge with two masts, inclined in opposite directions, symbolizing the balance of cultures living together. Steel towers topped with stylised hornbills pay tribute to the emblem of Sarawak. Several resting areas invite pedestrians to take in the spectacular panoramic view over the river, the city, and the State Legislative Assembly Building, while enjoying the cool river breeze.
Brooke Memorial
Brooke MemorialAs its name suggests, the Brooke Memorial was put up in honour of Rajah Charles Brooke, the second white rajah of Sarawak for his services and dedication to the state. Commissioned in 1924, this memorial monument consists of a 6 metre granite obelisk with a bas relief of the Rajah in marble. There are also bronze panels on the four corners of the memorial, representing the Sarawakian community: Dayak, Kayan, Malay and Chinese.
